GOG adds classic shooter ‘FEAR’ to preservation program following Monolith shutdown

The GOG Preservation Program is expanding once again. Last week, Warner Bros made the shocking decision to close down Monolith Productions, the studio behind Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and prior to that, the cult-classic shooter series ‘FEAR'. Now, GOG is aiming to preserve FEAR for generations to come.

The GOG Preservation Program sees the team at GOG putting in the development work to keep old games running on newer operating systems and newer generations of PC hardware. The program already includes over 100 classic games, including the likes of STALKER, Heroes of Might and Magic, Diablo, Warcraft, Riven, Myst, Alpha Protocol, Resident Evil 1-3, Carmageddon, Empire Earth, X-COM: UFO Defense, Earthworm Jim, Ultima, Legacy of Kain and more.

Following the closure of Monolith Productions, GOG decided to bring FEAR into the fold. The FEAR Platinum Edition, which includes post-launch patches and additional content, will be maintained and tested to ensure it works on modern PCs and platforms. That means if you pick up the game through GOG, you'll always have the most up-to-date version, without any changes to the original content of the game.

It is unclear of the sequels, FEAR 2 and FEAR 3, will also be added to the program, but as a huge fan of the entire trilogy, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for exactly that.
