Nintendo is reportedly boosting Switch 2 production this year

Despite a recent price hike in the US, Nintendo is still expecting to sell many Switch 2 consoles in the year ahead. Recent reports indicate that Nintendo is set to boost production of the console by 20% for its second year on the market. 

According to Bloomberg, Nintendo is aiming to produce 20 million Switch 2 consoles over the current fiscal year. This is despite the fact that the company tempered sales expectations for the next year, indicating that it only expects to sell between 16 and 17 million Switch 2 consoles, down from just under 20 million units during the system's first year on the market.

By producing as many Switch 2 units as possible, Nintendo has so far been able to avoid issues with scalpers and has managed to keep replenishing stocks regularly ever since the console launched in June 2025. Nintendo should see a pretty big boost in Switch 2 interest over the next year too thanks to a catalogue of upcoming exclusives.

Some of the big exclusives coming to the Switch 2 during its second year on the market include a new Star Fox game (a remake of Star Fox 64), the next mainline Pokémon games (Winds & Waves), and potentially a new Zelda too. Recent rumours also suggest that major Switch 1 games will get Switch 2 upgrades this year, like Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
