Overwatch introduces new vampire-inspired hero ‘Doctrine’

While Blizzard isn't giving Overwatch a series adaptation just yet, BlizzCon did bring about the return of their excellent character cinematics. A new hero, Doctrine, is coming to the game soon, and the new hero cinematic “Breakout” gives us an early look at the character and their lore.

Doctrine is a vampire‑inspired support hero launching alongside Overwatch’s Season 5 update on the 6th of October. Doctrine, real name Yamuka Yeukai, is a support‑class hero with the survivor sub‑role. Their movement ability triggers passive health regeneration, while their hitscan weapon can heal allies and damage enemies. Their Infused ability can also be used offensively or aimed at allies for additional healing.

Doctrine’s backstory centres on the Omnic Crisis, during which he lost his parents and took responsibility for caring for his sick brother. He went on to study cybernetics and bioengineering, developing technology capable of reversing aging by draining life force. This ultimately led to his imprisonment in Grímsvötn, a high‑security facility in Iceland, until Doomfist and his allies freed him, restoring his youthful appearance and arming him with his scepter and drones.

Players can try Doctrine early through a limited‑time test in Overwatch this weekend. He will then be added to the game officially in October as part of the Season 5 update.
