Poor PC optimisation isn't the only problem players are having with Monster Hunter Wilds right now. Capcom has one-upped itself in the microtransaction department with £6 vouchers to edit your character after the initial set-up phase. Fortunately for those of us on PC, mods can bypass this entirely. 

The Monster Hunter games have always had plenty of cosmetic microtransactions but locking mere character edits behind a paywall seems like a step too far. The fact that these limited-use vouchers cost £5.79 a pop pushes things over the edge, but fortunately, modders already have workarounds in place.

Thanks to modder ‘Ridog8' on Nexusmods, PC players can freely edit their player character without buying one of these insane vouchers. The mod also lets you make changes to your Palico's appearance. Other mods available on Nexus also allow you to adjust the shading and colour balance of the game, which should help those who feel the game is too brown in areas and washed out in others. SFX replacement mods, game balance mods and other tools are also available to PC players.

Now we do have to take into account the potential for Capcom to start banning mod users. If you are planning on using mods, you should steer away from the online modes, particularly if you are using a cheat mod like Infinite Sharpness, Monsters ignore Camp or mods that increase item drop rates.

KitGuru Says: Monster Hunter Wilds is already a huge success, amassing over 1.3 million concurrent players on PC alone during its launch day. The game costs £60 for the base edition, which to me, makes microtransactions like character edit vouchers unacceptable. Unfortunately, those on console will be forced to live with their customisation choices, or be forced to start a new save to avoid paying.
