Remedy to introduce RPG elements in Control 2

Remedy has been working away on Control 2 for around two years already, with the company revealing that development had begun in November 2022. Now, Remedy has issued the latest update, confirming that Control 2 will include ‘RPG' elements.

Control was primarily an action game, with a single, focused overarching narrative, with no room for players to influence the story. Players were instead encouraged to play around with various weapons (different forms of transforming gun) and also make good use of the super powers available to the main character. There was also a skill upgrade system and weapon mods to improve stats.

Speaking during the company's Capital Markets day, Remedy revealed to investors (via VGC) that Control 2 will go further down the RPG path, but we currently don't know the scope of these RPG elements.

While I am a huge fan of RPGs, in fact, most of my favourite games are RPGs, I fell in love with Control for its gameplay and level design. I hope that any attempt to introduce RPG elements doesn't water down those aspects. I don't need Control 2 to be another game where I devote time to comparing gear stats and chasing upgrades. However, a branching story with multiple paths could be interesting, so long as it doesn't bloat the game's scope too much, as one of Control's strengths was also, in my opinion, the game's runtime.
