Skull and Bones doesn’t have a release date yet, but a closed beta is on the way

Just as promised Skull & Bones did return to the spotlight this week during Ubisoft Forward. Given the game's development cycle so far, it shouldn't be too surprising that the game does not have a release date at this time. However, a beta will be taking place later this summer.

A short trailer announcing the beta was played during Ubisoft Forward. The video doesn't contain much of interest, as there is no gameplay. However, if you are interested in trying the game, you can sign up for a closed beta, which will take place from the 25th of August until the 28th.

It is hard to predict any release date for this game given its history, but we would assume if the beta goes well, then the game will release around October/November. If it does release in that window, it would quickly be replaced in headlines by Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is set to launch in early December and seems to be garnering positive impressions based on the new gameplay overview.

Skull & Bones has been in development for almost a decade and has been delayed and rebooted a number of times. The game is scheduled to release within Ubisoft's current fiscal year, which ends on March 31st 2024.

KitGuru Says: At this point, I don't think there is going to be any hype leading into Skull & Bones' eventual release. If the game does end up being fun, then Ubisoft could turn things around with an open beta and by lowering the $70 price.
