The Witcher 4 is set to go into full production this year

After launching Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2020, CD Projekt Red restructured its studios to reduce crunch and even swapped out its in-house development tools for Unreal Engine technology to smooth out development of future games. Since then, the studio has also been very open about its roadmap. In the latest update, we've learned that The Witcher 4 is the project furthest along.

Speaking in an interview with Flow Games, CD Projekt game director, Pawel Sasko, who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, said that The Witcher 4 is the “most advanced” project, although all of the games in development at CDPR right now are considered to be in the ‘early stages'.

Here is the full quote: “Most of those are in early stages. The only difference is the Polaris project—so, the new Witcher saga—that will enter production this year. It's the most advanced of all of those.”

This lines up with CDPR's previous business update, in which the company revealed that no employees are left on the Cyberpunk 2077 team, with all of them transferring over to working on ‘Polaris', the codename for the next Witcher game. Sasko's wording indicates that CDPR will be hiring for more roles in the months ahead as it gears up for full production on the game, a process that will take years, so don't expect an official reveal, trailer, or release date in the next year.

KitGuru Says: While The Witcher 4 might be the furthest along in development, that does not mean it is close to finished. With that said, we are coming up on the 10-year anniversary of The Witcher 3, so I expect CDPR to be inundated with requests for Witcher news throughout 2025.
