Upcoming documentary will show Arkane’s cancelled Half-Life game

Prior to Valve scrapping the Half-Life 2: Episodes concept all those years ago, the team was planning and working on Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Beyond that though, Valve was also licensing out the IP to other studios for future Half-Life Episodes. One of those studios was Arkane, and soon, we will know more about their unreleased Half-Life 2 project.

Right now, the excellent channel ‘NoClip' is producing a documentary on ‘the untold history of Arkane Studios'. A trailer for this doc is out now and gives us a brief glimpse at Half-Life 2: Episode 4- yes you read that correctly.

Arkane Studios was working on a Half-Life game set in Ravenholm, an ill-fated town where more realistic zombies roam, kind of like the ones from Left 4 Dead, or more recently, the ones seen dotted around in Half-Life: Alyx.

Not much is known about the project, just that Arkane Studios was working on it and that it was ultimately scrapped. Arkane then went on to work on its own IP. More details on the project, how it came to fruition and how it came to an end should be revealed next week.

KitGuru Says: Valve has not had a great history with collaborating and licensing out its own projects. A previous NoClip documentary also revealed how Gearbox had its own issues trying to work with Valve. Still it will be interesting to hear more about what Arkane had planned all those years ago.
