Xbox generated more than $5B last quarter

Microsoft's financial results have been released, covering Q3 of the fiscal year. Xbox revenue saw another decline, but looking beyond percentage-based headlines, the overall numbers are still enormous. 

Xbox generated $5.34 billion between January and the end of March. This is down from $5.72 billion during the same time period last year, but the overall number is still very good. Keep in mind, Microsoft acquired all of Zenimax for $7.5B, and that was more than five years ago.

Microsoft made a number of key changes to Xbox over this past quarter. Longtime CEO and figurehead, Phil Spencer, has retired and a newcomer to the Xbox team, Asha Sharma, has taken on the role of Xbox CEO. Meanwhile, Matt Booty has had a job title change to Chief Content Officer, and Sarah Bond has left Microsoft.

Sharma has already begun implementing some changes aimed at winning back Xbox fans. For instance, the Xbox logo has finally been updated to something that looks less like a Windows 8.1 tile, while bringing back the original Xbox green colour scheme.

This month, Sharma also announced that Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass would be getting a price cut to bring the value proposition back in line with expectations. However, future Call of Duty titles will no longer be available day-one on Game Pass.

KitGuru Says: The next move for Xbox could very well be a return to exclusives, though I imagine there will be exceptions. Bethesda Game Studios likely wants to remain multiplatform for The Elder Scrolls 6, and Call of Duty has to remain multiplatform due to legal agreements.
