Dead Island 2 sells “well over” 2 million copies in one month

Dead Island 2 had been cooking in the oven for many years, with the much-anticipated sequel being handed off to multiple studios over the course of its development. Despite these setbacks, Dead Island 2 finally launched late last month to positive reviews across the board. After selling 1 million copies in just 3 days, Dead Island 2 has now doubled its total sales just one month after launch.

As shared by the Embracer-focused Twitter page ‘EmbracerInvestor’, during the holding company’s latest earnings report, it was revealed that Dead Island 2 has so far sold “well over 2 million copies!”

With more than 2 million copies sold in just one month, Dead Island 2 has been said to have “exceeded management expectations.” Furthermore, the game represents Plaion's [a subsidiary of Embracer] biggest launch in history in both units and revenue in 7 days.

For comparison's sake, Dead Island 2’s contemporary, Dying Light 2 saw over 3 million players during its first week on sale back in February 2022 – with the game ultimately going on to sell over 5 million copies during its launch month.

It will be interesting to see whether Dead Island 2 manages to hit such numbers, though considering its early success there is a good chance that it might just – albeit at a slower rate. We will have to wait and see.
