STRAY responsible for biggest growth in PS Plus subscribers since the service’s revamp

In the wake of the success of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, Sony revamped its own PlayStation Plus service, offering three tiers in total which included a Game Pass-like library of rotating titles. This PS Plus revamp seems to have been working out well for Sony, with the likes of STRAY contributing massively to its success.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, vice president and global head of subscriptions Nick Maguire revealed just how successful their PlayStation Plus revamp has been for the console manufacturer – highlighting some of the most popular inclusions to the service, saying:

“Stray has brought in the highest number of players that have accessed that title over the first 12 months. And Ghost of Tsushima has brought in the highest number of hours of gameplay. People have really stuck around and really invested in that game. That goes to the strength of our PS Studios titles, which have seen great engagement and lots of excitement.”

Maguire continued to sing the praises of the revamp, saying “Four of the top ten over the year have been PS Studios titles, whether that's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West and even Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, which only joined recently – that's climbing very quickly and growing month-on-month. These exclusive titles are really what's resonating. It's bringing people in.”

One of the biggest selling points of Xbox’s Game Pass is the fact that all first-party titles launch day-and-date on the service. PlayStation Plus makes no such promises. That said, Sony have been pretty good with adding its first-party games to the service eventually – and with how revered many of the exclusives have been, the delayed additions seems to not have hampered the service. It will be interesting to see how PS Plus evolves over the next year.
