Streets of Rage film adaptation re-revealed with new writers and a director

It's been all the rage in recent years for game publishers to have another stab at adapting many of their classic IPs into film or TV shows. First announced back in 2022, SEGA’s Streets of Rage film has finally gotten some major updates, including confirmation of its new writers and director.

As reported by the publication Variety, SEGA’s seemingly dormant Streets of Rage film project has finally gained some traction following its announcement in 2022.

Back then, it was revealed that the project was being written and produced by John Wick writer Derek Kolstad who stated at the time: “I was so immediately freaking in. And to play with Sega? The ten-year-old me is still grinning.”

Unfortunately, in the years since, Kolstad would depart from the project, with Pat Casey and Josh Miller (known best for writing the Sonic the Hedgehog films) now stepping in to replace him.

Also joining the crew is Jeymes Samuel, who will serve as the film’s director. While a relatively unknown name, Samuel is best recognised for the 2021 Western ‘The Harder They Fall’. Additionally, the director has worked with prominent figures including Jay-Z and Kid Cudi on a short film and music video respectively.

Following the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy (soon to be quadrilogy), it makes sense that SEGA would want to try the same with its other franchises. Hopefully we end up getting something unique and interesting.
