Tokyo Game Show 2023 announced and detailed

With each passing year we are seeing the relevance of major annualised gaming events and expos such as E3 dwindle as developers and publishers opt to create their own experiences for significantly cheaper. That said, Tokyo Game Show seems to still be seeing great support from the industry, as the show’s 2023 event has now officially been confirmed and detailed.

As reported by Gematsu, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association officially announced that Tokyo Game Show 2023 will be happening this year and will take place between the 21st and 24th of September. What’s more, the event will be bigger than ever, utilising all of the available halls at the event for the first time in 4 years.

While no publishing partners have been announced yet, the CESA have offered various details on the new and growing initiatives set to take place this year during the event, with the breakdown being as follows:

  • Physical Venue – New areas are set up to meet the expanding game industry. Family and cosplay areas are revived for the first time in four years. Stage events are also refreshed to deliver more enjoyable entertainment.
  • Virtual Venue – The virtual venue “Tokyo Game Show VR” first appeared in 2021. In this third year, visitors can access the venue by smartphones in addition to HMDs and PCs. The world is evolving and powered up.
  • Online – TGS offers online programs again this year. Check out the exhibitors via official streaming programs, and play trial versions of indie games and big-name titles on the special Steam site.

It is also worth noting that the Virtual Venue will persist for a week longer than the in-person event, meaning those interested will have up until the 1st of October to attend. With the likes of E3 struggling to regain its foothold within the industry, it is exciting to see that not only is TGS surviving, but thriving.
