Could Helldivers 2 come to Xbox?

Helldivers 2 has been a huge hit over the past couple of months, maintaining a massive playerbase eager to stay up to date on new content across PS5 and PlayStation. Currently, the game is a PS5 console exclusive, but recent rumours suggest that may change.

Xbox Era's Nick Baker has claimed to have heard that Helldivers 2 is in ‘very early talks' to come to Xbox, widening the game's crossplatform playerbase. It is suggested that SIE's new CEO has been more receptive to multiplatform games, which may have opened the door here.

While it sounds like a nice idea, I don't think it takes into account the priorities of the team behind Helldivers 2. Arrowhead's CEO has already come out to confirm that new features like DLSS won't be supported in the near future, as the team is prioritising new content. Recently, the studio's community team have also confirmed that the team does intentionally balance bug fixing with content, so it can maintain a quick turnaround time.

With all of that in mind, while I wouldn't rule out Helldivers 2 on Xbox eventually, it is much too soon to be talking about it. Arrowhead is still a small studio and another port of the game will require resources. Right now, Arrowhead's priority is clear – content above all else.

KitGuru Says: I'd like to see Helldivers 2 on Xbox but first I would like to see Arrowhead implement cross-platform saves. I would likely own the game on console in addition to PC if my progress could transfer between both platforms.

KitGuru Games: Corporate nonsense has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy as game removed from over 170 countries

It tends to take a lot for gamers to 'forgive' a studio after messing up a launch, for instance CD Projekt Red had to spend three additional years developing Cyberpunk 2077 before many were willing to give the game another shot. In the case of Helldivers 2, despite the game having some rough server issues at launch, the game turned out to be so good that many players simply waited things out, without leaving a trail of negative reviews. Now, a case of incredibly poor communication and a poorly thought-out plan from the game's publisher, Sony, has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy, with the game being removed from over 170 countries.
