Apple say Android phones are inferior to iPhone

Apple have attempted to put a spanner in Samsung's flagship smartphone launch day by speaking out against Android powered products. Apple marketing boss Phil Schiller said yesterday that he believes that products which run Google Android are inferior to Apple's iPhone.

Schiller shared his data on the popularity of the iPhone. He said that four times as many iPhone users switched from an Android phone than to an Android phone in the fourth quarter.

Some experts are claiming that Apple are really concerned about the success of Android and that the comments are meant to detract from important launch days for high profile Android partners, such as Samsung.

Schiller said that Android users are often running much older versions of the operating system and that the fragmentation in the Android world was ‘plain and simple'. He added “Android is often given as a free replacement for a feature phone and the experience isn't as good as an iPhone.”

Phil Schiller -Apple marketing boss. Not a fan of Android then.

Schiller said that the experience on an Android phone is not as good because different elements are sourced from various companies. Apple on the other hand are responsible for the complete experience when you buy an iPhone.

He said “When you take an Android device out of the box, you have to sign up to nine accounts with different vendors to get the experience iOS comes with. They don't work seamlessly together.”

The Apple iPhone claimed 19 percent of the global smartphone market in 2012, compared with around 70% for Android smartphones, according to data compiled by IDC. The research organisation also said that they expect tablets powered by Android to surpass the iPad, in terms of shipments. ComScore say Apple beat Samsung in U.S. smartphone subscribers.

Schiller isn't a fan of the market share figures. He said “I'm not sure that the estimates and the modeling accurately gives an accurate picture of it all.” He did quote ChangeWave reports that around 75% of Apple users are ‘very satisfied' with their smartphone, compared with around 50% of Android users.
