A patent submitted on 29th July 2013 by Samsung has hinted that its smartwatch device will be called ‘Samsung Galaxy Gear’. Some of the basic capabilities have also been hinted at in the patent.
According to the patent, Samsung Galaxy Gear will be “Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages”.
Further information from the patent indicates the smartwatch’s tablet computer-, smart phone-, and personal computer-like functionality.
While the name itself is of little importance, could the addition of the ‘Galaxy’ branding from the previously-suggested ‘Samsung Gear’ moniker indicate functionality that links in with current Samsung Galaxy products? Could we be seeing the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch using an Android-based operating system?

KitGuru says: More information about Samsung’s smartwatch could be revealed at next month’s IFA consumer electronics show.
