Josef Fares reveals a ton of details on Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction and more

Hazelight founder Josef Fares has amassed a reputation not only for making interesting and humorous speeches during the annual Game Awards, but also for releasing consistently excellent co-op titles including A Way Out and GOTY winner It Takes Two. With the launch of their next title ‘Split Fiction’ almost here, Fares has revealed a ton of new and interesting details surrounding the upcoming game, previous titles, the studio as a whole and more.

Taking part in Minnmax’s rapid-fire question series, Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares answered 127 questions in total – revealing a bunch of cool and notable facts/details.

One of the most interesting revelations was the fact that their last game ‘It Takes Two’ has sold over 23 million copies since its launch back in 2021 – with half of all the sales coming from China.

This is even more impressive when considering the fact that despite being a co-op game, It Takes Two did not require you to purchase multiple copies to play the full game.

Beyond this, Fares revealed that the upcoming Split Fiction will be roughly the same length as It Takes Two; has double the budget; and will also feature a cross-play Friends Pass feature to let others play with you for free no matter their system of choice.

Finally, in an era where studios are being shut down left and right, it’s encouraging to hear Fares state that Hazelight will always remain independent, is not for sale and will never pursue any sort of stock listing.

Hazelight Studios have proven time and time again that they know how to make unique, inventive and inspiring games, and so hopefully Split Fiction proves to be all this and more.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
