Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland leaves Squanch Games

Following the massive success of Adult Swim cartoon Rick and Morty, one of the show’s co-creators and lead voice actor Justin Roiland expanded his horizons into the video games space, founding Squanch Games (who later made the recently-released High on Life). The past few days however has seen a swath of allegations set against Roiland, with the founder now resigning from his role at the studio.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Squanch Games account released a concise statement saying “On January 16, 2023, Squanch Games received Justin Roiland's resignation.

The passionate team at Squanch will keep developing games we know our fans will love while continuing to support and improve High On Life.”

It is interesting to see that Roiland seemingly departed of his own volition, especially as he was involuntarily booted from Rick and Morty. That said, Squanch Games has been amassing a decent reputation as a relatively new studio, and so it not being tied to Roiland is likely best for everyone. It will be interesting to see how this situation further develops.

Squnch Games was founded in 2016 and has since released a small selection of well-enjoyed titles including VR titles ‘Accounting++’ and ‘Trover Saves the Universe’ as well as the aforementioned comedy-focused first person shooter ‘High on Life’.
