Sonic x Shadow Generations is the highest rated entry since Mania

The Sonic series has had its ups and downs over the many years, but the Blue Blur seems to be on a bit of a hot streak at the moment. Following the success of the first two Sonic films (and in anticipation of the 3rd), reviews for the upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations have gone live – marking the highest rated entry since 2016’s Sonic Mania.

With a Metacritic score of 80 and an Open Critic rating of 81, Sonic x Shadow Generations is the highest rated entry in the series for quite some time – with the last game to score higher being 2016’s excellent Sonic Mania.

Of course, Mania is a 2D entry and so a more apt comparison would be with the hedgehog’s 3D outings – in which case this latest remaster / expansion takes the top spot ahead of Sonic Colours [78] and the original Generations [77].

Sonic x Shadow Generations

Given that Sonic Generations has long been a fan-favourite entry, it is perhaps not too surprising to see the remaster being reviewed favourably.

That said, considering the title is well over a decade old now, it is nice to know that it still holds up all these years later – and that the Shadow portions of the game aren’t just a cash grab. It will be interesting to see what’s next for the blue blur.
