PS4 specs leaked

It was only a few days ago that we heard what the guts of the Xbox 720 will be like and now we're getting a taste of its main competitor the PS4, with a purported leak that gives us a run down of what we can expect inside Sony's next-gen system.

So what are we looking at? Here's a spec list:

  • CPU: 4 x dual core AMD 64 Bulldozer chips
  • GPU: AMD R10xx
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Video RAM: 2.2GB
  • Storage: 160GB HDD
  • ODD: Blu Ray
  • Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 2x Ethernet

As Kotaku points out, don't fret at the small hard drive. This is a dev. machine build, not the eventual home console, so there will be bigger versions available, guaranteed. However just looking at that list, if there really is a 7000 chip in the next PS3, it could be an incredibly powerful machine -very likely more so than the Xbox equivalent.

It's also being reported that there will be a changeup in the controller design, but we talked about that recently – it's going down. The only difference in reporting seems to be that some say the new one will not feature the classic Dual Shock style and will instead be something quite different, possibly incorporating a touch screen or biometrics.

KitGuru Says: If the PS4 does end up packing all that high power into one machine, it could end up pretty expensive. That said, Sony doesn't have much aversion to selling its consoles at a loss.

KitGuru Games: Predicting PlayStation’s Portable Plans

The popularity of handhelds have waxed and waned over the years/generations as console maker priorities have shifted and audience trends changed. That said the launch of the Nintendo Switch ushered us into a new handheld renaissance of sorts. With rumours claiming that Sony is looking to once again re-enter the market, it is time we looked back to the portable PlayStation’s past successes, failures, and lessons (hopefully) learned for what (and what not) to do.

  1. Yay another console that will overheat and fail! Thumbs up AMD, keeping us techies in business!

  2. These are PS4 Dev Kit specs, not PS4 specs
