Insomniac Games pitched Resistance 4 to Sony but were turned down

Insomniac Games has had an interesting trajectory. After creating the highly-praised Spyro and Ratchet & Clank franchises, the team moved in a different direction for the PS3 with their gritty FPS trilogy ‘Resistance’. According to the studio’s founder, Insomniac pitched a potential 4th entry to Sony – though it was ultimately rejected.

Founder and CEO of Insomniac Games – Ted Price – recently announced his retirement from the studio. In the wake of this, Price has taken part in various interviews in which the ex-CEO has been rather candid with regards to his decades at the studio.

In a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games, Price revealed that following the conclusion of the Resistance trilogy back in 2011, the studio pitched Sony a potential 4th entry.

According to Price, while Resistance 3 marked the end of its storyline, the 4th game would have reportedly been “something different” – possibly the start of another trilogy? Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, Price claimed that he does not know whether the series will ever come back for a new game.

That said, in the years since Resistance 3, Insomniac Games have gone on to become a household name, with them releasing the underrated Sunset Overdrive, followed by a string of major hits with Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequels.

While things ultimately seemed to have worked out well for Insomniac Games, it would be interesting to see what the timeline would look like had they ended up making Resistance 4.
