Nokia confirms the death of Symbian

The end of Symbian has been coming for a while now and in Nokia's Q4 2012 earnings report that Finnish company has finally confirmed it. Nokia says that the 808 PureView, which was announced nearly a year ago, will be the last Symbian device from them.

“During our transition to Windows Phone through 2012, we continued to ship devices based on Symbian,” the company wrote. “The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia.”

While Symbian was favoured in the not-quite-as-smart phone era, Nokia has moved exclusively onto Microsoft's growing Windows Phone platform for its smartphones.

KitGuru says: While Symbian devices will not make themselves felt at Mobile World Congress next month, we are sure the platform will live on for a few years yet.
