The first Firefox OS phones have been revealed

Mozilla's Firefox OS was announced last year in an attempt to introduce a new major operating system to the ever-growing smartphone market. Retail hardware is on the horizon and today the first two developer orientated devices have been announced to go on sale next month.

The low-end Keon device has a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 single-core processor, a 3.5 inch HVGA display, a 3 MP camera, 4 GB of storage and 512 MB of RAM. The mid-range Peak handset, at least compared to today's Android devices boasts a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, a 4.3 inch qHD display, an 8 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front facing camera, 4 GB of storage and 512 MB of memory.

There has been no word yet on pricing details but we would expect both these developer devices and later retail devices to be rather affordable.

KitGuru says: It will certainly be interesting to see if Mozilla can grasp a share of the market in a world dominated by iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices.
