Hideo Kojima announces Death Stranding 2

Hideo Kojima has had a long and storied history with both Geoff Keighley and The Game Awards, and so it was not surprising to see the game creator present at the 2022 awards ceremony. What was perhaps surprising was the announcement that Death Stranding is set to get a sequel.

Announced at the 2022 Game Awards, Death Stranding 2 (working title: DS2) is a follow-up to Hideo Kojima’s 2019 open-world stealth-action strand-type game.

Alongside the announcement, a teaser trailer was released, and in typical Kojima fashion it is confusing, cryptic, and rather enticing. What has seemingly been confirmed however is the fact that DS2 will follow on directly from the first entry, with much of the game’s cast returning for the sequel, including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker.

DS2 will also be introducing a bunch of new faces, with Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna announced to be in the game.

Finally, in case you were worried, it has been confirmed that “As with all of his past masterpieces, the latest title will be produced, written, directed and designed by Hideo Kojima himself.”

Neither a release date nor a release year was given, but we do know that Death Stranding 2 will be coming to PS5 – with no other platforms announced. Of course, following a period of exclusivity, the first game did eventually come to other platforms, and so hopefully the same will be the case with DS2. Expect many more cryptic trailers between now and the game’s release.
