Microsoft sue Motorola: Xbox royalties

Another week and yet another court case. This time Microsoft are suing Motorola for unreasonable levels of royalties for technology the Redmond OS giant uses in the Xbox game console.

Microsoft have alleged that Motorola have breached commitments made to standards organisations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the International Telecommunications Union for “reasonable and non-discriminatory terms and conditions” in patent licenses for wireless and video coding technologies.

Motorola have said that they have worked with Microsoft to reach a licensing agreement system for the technology, “unfortunately, despite a fair offer from Motorola, Microsoft was unwilling to enter into a licensing agreement.”

KitGuru says: This is the latest in a series of court cases between various high profile corporations with Apple and HTC frequently on the receiving (and delivering) end of suits.
