Sega sells off studio behind Humankind and Endless Dungeon

This week has been rife with industry news, as most major games publishers have now held their quarterly earnings calls. SEGA is joining the growing list, with the announcement that it has sold off one of its studios.

Earlier this week, Take-Two announced that it had sold off Private Division, its indie-game publishing arm. Now, SEGA has announced a sale of its own, shipping off Amplitude Studios, based in France.

Amplitude Studios has released at least two games for SEGA in the last five years, including Humankind and Endless Dungeon. Unfortunately, it seems neither title really made a significant mark.

Sega as a whole has been cutting back on its Europe-based studios recently and in particular, has begun pivoting away from strategy games. Sega also sold off Company of Heroes studio, Relic, earlier this year and had previously laid off hundreds from Creative Assembly.

KitGuru Says: The games industry has shrunk in some ways, particularly where AAA is concerned. However, there are also a growing number of new studios being founded by former studio leaders, which will hopefully lead to a new crop of hit games. For many, the red tape involved in many AAA productions is a hinderance to creativity.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
