Sonic x Shadow Generations sold 1 million copies in first 24 hours

The Sonic series has had its ups and downs over the past many years, but the Blue Blur seems to be on a bit of a hot streak at the moment. Following the success of the first two Sonic films (and in anticipation of the 3rd), Sonic x Shadow Generations released to high praise and even higher sales – having already surpassed 1 million copies.

As shared in a press release by SEGA to the publication Sonic Stadium, just one day after its launch, Sonic x Shadow Generations has already sold over 1 million copies, writing:

“SEGA CORPORATION is pleased to announce that the worldwide sales of their game SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS that released globally on Friday, October 25, 2024, has surpassed one million units.”

The publisher lists its support for 12 languages as being one of the contributing factors to its immediate sales success – alongside a focus “on transmedia development as an important strategy, which involves the global expansion across various media verticals and merchandising.”

Sonic x Shadow 1 million

For the uninitiated, Sonic x Shadow Generations is a remaster of the much-loved 2011 3D platformer alongside a Bowser's Fury-esque standalone expansion focused on the titular Shadow the Hedgehog.

Sonic Generations was already one of the Blue Blur’s better selling games (with over 5 million copies estimated to have been sold), but even so, it seems as though Sonic is entering a new age of mainstream recognition and success once again – no doubt aided by the film franchise.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
