Mario + Rabbids director forms new studio

Back in July, the creative director for the Mario + Rabbids series – Davide Soliani – announced his departure from Ubisoft after a 25 year tenure. At the time, the creator did not reveal his future plans, simply stating “I have decided to leave Ubisoft to embark on a new adventure”. Now, Soliani has officially announced his new studio: Day 4 Night.

In a report by Gamesindustry.biz, it was officially announced that Davide Soliani had teamed up with the lead designer for Red Dead Redemption ‘Christian Cantamessa’ to form a brand new studio.

Named Day 4 Night, the team also consists of further Mario + Rabbids devs, including Cristina Nava, Gian Marco Zanna and Luca Breda.

Speaking on this new venture, Cantamessa stated “When I first fell in love with video games at the start of my career, I saw the power of this new medium to tell stories never told before and create worlds that could transform people. Day 4 Night is a return to that innovative spirit, to that innocence, to that unbridled creativity.”

Adding to this, Soliani said “What we are crafting at Day 4 Night is a reflection of everything I’ve ever wanted to experience as a player – joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the pleasure of working with friends. It’s a lullaby for my soul and a serenade to our industry, to the magic and the madness of creating worlds from nothing. It’s a story about triumphs, challenges, dreams, to light the path we walk together.”

In a year when studios are being shut down left and right, and 10s of thousands of developers have lost their jobs, it is encouraging to see new indie teams getting together to continue producing the art that they love.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
