Black Ops 6 beta was the largest in Call of Duty history

Following the less-than-stellar reception towards last year’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, Activision is relying on the team at Treyarch to bring COD fans back onto their side with the upcoming release of Black Ops 6. Ahead of its official launch, both closed and open betas were held – revealing a new record of excitement for the upcoming shooter.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the team at Treyarch revealed just how popular the game’s recently-concluded closed and open betas were, saying:

“Thank you to our community. Together, you made the Black Ops 6 Open Beta the biggest Call of Duty Beta ever”. Breaking down exactly what they mean by this, the BO6 beta is said to have managed:

  • #1 in total players
  • #1 in hours played
  • #1 in playtime per player
  • #1 in most matches played

Given the fact that COD betas typically run for a single weekend or two, these stats are able to be more easily compared to prior releases – meaning these records are unlikely to have been twisted to suit a narrative.

Still, it’ll be interesting to see what the consensus of Black Ops 6 is when the game launches officially on the 25th of October.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
