Monster Hunter Wilds gets new gameplay trailer for Light Bowgun

Capcom has been on a spree of reveals for its next generation Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Wilds. The publisher has been uploading gameplay clips focusing on different mechanics and weapons, seemingly in a lead-up to a big announcement at Gamescom.

In previous trailers we got to see some of the new mechanics in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the new Focus Mode, which allows players to see the weak points on monsters in the heat of battle. Another trailer showcased other basic mechanics, which have not changed much from previous Monster Hunter games, so it should all look very familiar to veterans. We've also had weapon trailers for the Great Sword, Hunting Horn and Hammer weapons so far.

Today, Capcom's trailer spree continued with a new weapon trailer, this time focusing on the Light Bowgun, for players who prefer dealing damage from a distance, rather than getting up close to monsters.

The Lightbowgun fires rapid shots and can inflict status ailments to monsters, like poison or incendiary damage. Players will switch to different ammo types, with piercing ammo geared towards deal with heavily armoured beasts, and elemental ammo types to deal additional damage and status effects. The Light Bowgun also includes a special trap known as the Wyvernblast, which is a landmine you can place on the ground to deal heavy damage to monsters who step on it.

While the gameplay still looks familiar to long-time fans of the series, Capcom has been putting a lot of emphasis onto new features like Focus Mode, which will make the game more accessible for newcomers. Monster Hunter Wilds is due to release in 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
