Marvel Rivals to unveil new characters and “surprises” at Gamescom ONL

Marvel Rivals is one of the biggest upcoming free-to-play multiplayer games, with the 3rd-person Overwatch-like Hero shooter receiving a great deal of buzz during its beta period. With the game set to arrive at some point in the unknown future, the team at Marvel have revealed their plans for ‘surprise’ announcements during Gamescom later this month.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Marvel Rivals page revealed their upcoming Gamescom plans, saying “Don’t miss out on new heroes and surprises—watch ONL on August 20th for all the details! Join us at Gamescom for hands-on demos. Watch our live stream with the Marvel Rivals team on August 20th! Content creators and media will be invited to share their exclusive insights and feedback, so stay tuned!”

Of course, the most interesting part of the announcement is the fact that we will see new heroes as well as other ‘surprises’ at the showcase. Perhaps a release window?

Marvel Rivals currently has 23 announced characters, including Black Panther; Doctor Strange; Iron Man; Hulk; Hela; Peni Parker; Magneto; Spider-Man; Venom; Thor and many more. That said, with literally thousands of characters under the Marvel umbrella, almost anyone could still show up.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
