You can now buy cinema tickets inside Roblox

While the concept of an ever-present metaverse may have fallen out of popularity somewhat, a few games/platforms continue to push the concept’s possibilities. In collaboration with Warner Bros. you can now purchase real-life film tickets inside Roblox.

As reported by Variety, Roblox is teaming up with WB to offer a new way to purchase cinema tickets. Starting with the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, Roblox players aged 13 and up can play through an “Escape the Afterlife” experience created for the film’s promotion.

As part of this, players can “walk up and make a ticket purchase right within the experience to see the movie” on the 6th of September when it arrives in cinemas. Those who purchase a ticket in this manner will also be given a ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ exclusive avatar item available for use within Roblox.

Discussing this latest move, WB’s executive vice president of global digital marketing ‘Cameron Curtis’ said “We are always looking to engage audiences and amplify our reach in new and exciting ways; this first-of-its-kind collaboration with Roblox and Fandango for ‘Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice’ allows for just that. By leveraging the vast Roblox creator community, we are not only able to connect with existing Beetlejuice fans, but also have the opportunity to reach new audiences who are being introduced to him for the first time. And we are thrilled to be the first studio to test ticketing on the platform.”

Marketing/corporate speak aside, this latest move is of course solely to bring in more money for all parties involved. That said, it will be interesting to see how successful this endeavour proves to be. We will have to wait and see.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
