The ‘Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games’ series is officially over claims dev

In alignment with pretty much every major Olympic event over the past decade plus, SEGA have released an entry in the crossover Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series. After a dozen games over the past 17 years, it seems the long-running crossover series is officially over.

As shared by Lee Cocker via Twitter, the ex-Mario and Sonic developer revealed the following “For the people that are asking there will be no @MarioSonicGames for @Paris2024 the franchise finished with #MarioAndSonic at the #OlympicGames @Tokyo2020 I know because I worked on all the games in the franchise.”

Offering further evidence on the lack of any future Olympic games from SEGA, Cocker explained how “the Olympic Video game license is currently with @nWayGames they have released two #OlympicGames titles.”

While in many ways a relatively niche franchise, the Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games series offered fans of both characters a chance to engage in friendly competition. Hopefully the ‘Mario and Sonic’ series specifically will carry on in some form or another.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
