Tekken 8 exceeds expectations with 2 million copies sold

After a very lengthy marketing period, the much anticipated Tekken 8 finally released late last month. It seems as though the game has found a strong audience straight from the get-go, with the fighting game having already sold over 2 million copies.

As shared by Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki (via Twitter), Tekken publisher Bandai Namco recently held their latest investor call in which the company revealed lower-than-expected results – in particular due to the underperformance of its Japan-exclusive MMO Blue Protocol.

That said, one title which did not disappoint was Tekken 8, with the game having already sold over 2 million copies since its launch on the 26th of January, which according to the publisher is “better than we’d hoped for at this point.”

In late 2022, Bandai Namco announced that Tekken 7 had sold 10 million copies – making it the best selling entry in the series.

Considering the fact that Tekken 8 has had a much stronger launch reception-wise compared to its predecessor (with T8 currently resting at an impressive 90/100 on Metacritic), it’ll be curious to see just how quickly the game manages to catch up to Tekken 7 – and whether it will surpass it to become the best-selling game in the franchise. We will have to wait and see.
