Metro Awakening is releasing sooner than expected

Earlier this year, Vertigo Games announced Metro Awakening, bringing the fantastic game and book franchise to VR for the first time. At the time, we knew the game would be launching in 2024 but an exact release date was yet to be confirmed. Fortunately, that changes today.

Metro Awakening is a standalone story set in the same universe as the earlier games from 4A Games, including Metro 2033, Metro Last Light and Metro Exodus. Currently, 4A Games is working on a new Metro game for PC and consoles. In the meantime, fans can return to the Metro tunnels with this new VR adventure, set prior to the events of the first game.

As this takes place prior to the events of the first title, the tunnels are going to be far more dangerous and you'll unlikely get to spend much, if any time on the earth's surface. The game is said to be a “very personal, emotional story for our protagonist”, who will be a brand new character, not tied to previous games.

Metro Awakening will be available through Steam, as well as on the PS VR2, Quest 2 and Quest 3 platforms. The game will be available in September 2024.

KitGuru Says: I've had a Quest 3 headset for a few months now and so far, this might be the only game coming this year that I'm excited to get the headset out for.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
