Helldivers 2 was the UK’s best selling game in February

We already knew that Helldivers 2 has been a huge success so far. One look at the game's high concurrent player counts on Steam proves that. However, the story has gotten all the more impressive this week, with Helldivers 2 being crowned as the best-selling game in the UK.

In February 2024, which was the launch month for Helldivers 2, the game reached the top of sales charts in the UK, according to data from GSD, as shared by GI.biz. The game first launched on the 8th of February and in the three weeks that followed, the game continued to outsell competing titles like EA FC 24, Call of Duty, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Skull and Bones, Persona 3 Reload and more.

Overall, UK gamers bought up around 2.77 million video games over the course of the month. Impressively, Helldivers 2 achieved the rare feat of seeing sales growth week to week, meaning good word of mouth about the game boosted sales after the initial launch period, which is usually when the most copies of any game are sold.

With this hot start, Arrowhead is in a good position to solidify a position in the ‘live' shooter arena, a very competitive one usually dominated by a few large IP, like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Apex Legends and others.

KitGuru Says: I've been playing a lot of Helldivers 2 over the last couple of weeks. We're on the verge of liberating the final planet required to unlock mech suits, and a new Warbond is coming in March, so it looks like my time in the game isn't going to slow down anytime soon.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
