Nintendo officially announces new Mario movie for 2026

2023’s Super Mario Bros. Movie ended up being one of the biggest films of the year, raking in over 1.36 Billion and cementing itself as not only the most successful video game adaptation of all time, but also the highest grossing animated feature ever. It therefore comes as little surprise that Nintendo and Illumination are working together once again on another movie.

Making the announcement during its annual Mar10 Day, the console manufacturer published a press release, officially confirming that they are partnering once again with animation studio Illumination to produce “a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.”

While not directly referred to as a sequel, this follow-up to 2023’s smash hit is said to be “based on the world of Super Mario Bros. [and] is planned to be released on April 3, 2026 in the US and many additional markets globally with select territories releasing throughout the month of April.”

It was quite obvious that the Super Mario Bros. Movie would be popular, but its overwhelming success shocked even the most confident of fans. It therefore comes as little surprise that another entry is on its way. It’ll be interesting to see whether this will be a direct sequel to 2023’s release, or if a different character will be the main focus.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
