Mortal Kombat 1 to get a major story expansion

Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest title from fighting game studio NetherRealm. As with their prior Mortal Kombat games, MK1 will be getting a major expansion not too dissimilar to MK11’s Aftermath DLC – bringing with it new story content and more. That is not all however, as MK creator Ed Boon also teased the fact that “we have a big surprise after that.”

As part of a panel during the Brazilian convention CCXP23, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon spoke on the current status of MK1 while also teasing the title’s future. As clipped by Twitter user ‘WesleyLPBR’, Boon had this to say about MK1:

“Just like we did with MK11, we’re going to release a second part with more story and we have a big surprise after that.”

As mentioned, MK11 Aftermath was a major expansion to the last-gen fighting game, bringing with it a whole host of improvements and new content, including but not limited to:

  • A continuation of MK11’s story
  • 3 new playable characters
  • 3 new character skin packs
  • An exclusive Johnny Cage skin

Perhaps even more interesting is the tease that NetherRealm has “a big surprise” planned for after the release of MK1’s expansion. While it very well could be a whole new game, it seems a bit too early for that, and so it is possible we will see even more content coming out for Mortal Kombat 1 in the not-too-distant future.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
