Spider-Man 2 includes swinging customisation and fall damage

2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man for many served as the best representation of what being Spider-Man would feel like. That said, some deemed the game to be too automated – especially when it comes to traversing New York City. The upcoming Spider-Man 2 will fix this by including a “Swing Steering Assist setting” alongside an optional fall damage toggle.

As reported by IGN, the Senior Programming Director at Insomniac Games –  Doug Sheahan – spoke on a number of new player-toggleable features which will allow for a more customisable traversal experience, saying:

“Something we're seeing more and more of is that players like to be able to customize their experience. For those players, we added the ability to enable fall damage (fall damage defaults to Off) and even let people tweak how swinging feels with our Swing Steering Assist setting. We hope players who enjoy a deep dive into the details have fun experimenting.”

According to the developer, having the Swing Steering Assist enabled will make the experience similar to that found in both Spider-Man and Miles Morales, and so turning it off will allow for more advanced players to have even greater control while swinging across the city.

While many fans thoroughly enjoyed the swinging experience in 2018’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Miles Morales, there are some who still regard the PS2’s Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in from Treyarch to be the best due to its physics-based traversal and added fall damage. It is exciting to see that for those players, Insomniac Games is giving more freedom of control with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
