Sony promises new game announcements and updates in State of Play today

Today is shaping up to be a big day for video game announcements. Not only is Nintendo holding its next Nintendo Direct stream today but Sony has also announced plans for a State of Play stream later this evening.

Following on from recent rumours, Sony has now confirmed that State of Play will return tonight at 10PM BST. The stream will be focused on “indie and third-party titles”, but there is always the possibility of a first-party surprise or two.

Currently, we don't know much about Sony's planned line-up for 2024. It might be too soon to reveal that, but we would anticipate that one or two more first-party exclusives are on the way next year.

As for this stream, I think we can expect to see an update on Helldivers 2, which was originally revealed at the PlayStation Showcase earlier this year. With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth set to launch on PS5 in early 2024, we would expect an update on that game too. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also due in February, so we would anticipate a new look at that game, hopefully with improved gameplay compared to the previous showing.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
