Mortal Kombat 1 will not feature cross-play at launch

Over the course of the past console generation we saw cross-play become an increasingly common feature, with games of all scopes allowing you to play with friends no matter their platform of choice. Despite Mortal Kombat 11 featuring cross-play, the upcoming MK1 will not have such functionality – at least not at launch.

Announcing the unfortunate news via Twitter, the official Mortal Kombat page stated: “Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch.”

This news is rather disappointing to see, especially as the team’s previous game – Mortal Kombat 11 – did include cross-play (though admittedly not at launch).

One thing worth noting however is the fact that Mortal Kombat 11’s cross-play was somewhat limited, with console players locked to playing with other console players, Microsoft Store users on PC being able to play with Xbox owners – and Steam users left out entirely from any cross-play functionality.

With Mortal Kombat 1 not launching with the feature, hopefully when cross-play does arrive, it will allow you to play with anyone and everyone, no matter the system. We will have to wait and see.
