Alone in the Dark delayed to 2024 due to busy October

October is set to be one of the busiest months of the year for game launches, with many titles both big and small planned to be released throughout the Halloween period. In order to get away from all the noise and find its own space in the video game release calendar, horror title Alone in the Dark has been pushed back by a few months, now arriving in early 2024.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Alone in the Dark page explained the delay, saying “Horror games thrive on the eerie embrace of solitude, something that is impossible to achieve in a gaming month as busy as October. To ensure a breathtaking experience for everyone, we have made the decision to move the release of #AloneInTheDark to January 16, 2024.”

Originally, this much-anticipated title was set to drop on the 25th of October, just in time for Halloween. As mentioned however, October will be a stacked month with some of the biggest games of the year coming out during this time.

Just some of the titles arriving next month include Assassin’s Creed Mirage (5th October); Forza Motorsport (10th October); Lords of the Fallen (13th October); Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (20th October); Super Mario Bros. Wonder (20th October); Cities: Skylines 2 (24th October) and Alan Wake II (27th October).

While it would have been appropriate for a horror game such as Alone in the Dark to launch around Halloween, it would have undoubtedly been overshadowed somewhat by the many other aforementioned titles.

Furthermore, horror games have found great success in the past during January, with the likes of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and RE2 Remake both releasing during the first month of the year. Hopefully this delay will benefit not only the game’s quality, but also its sales success.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
