E3 might not return in 2024 or 2025

Ever since the pandemic, E3 has been on hiatus. The prestigious summer gaming event was the main stage for new game announcements for decades, but in recent years, the ESA has struggled to get enough developers involved to revive the event. Now, it appears that E3 may already be scrapped for 2024 and 2025. 

Despite the rise of competitors like Summer Game Fest and all three major console makers opting to host their own independent, digital events for new game announcements, the ESA has been adamant that E3 will return. For the last two years, that confidence has led nowhere, with the event eventually being cancelled months ahead of time. After the cancellation of E3 2023, the ESA began planning for E3 2024.

Now, an update to the Los Angeles City Tourism Department report indicates that E3 will not be taking place in 2024 or 2025 – at least not at its usual venue, the LA Convention Centre.

The ESA says that no final decision has been made regarding E3 2024 or E3 2025, but given the amount of trouble the organisers have had bringing the event back in recent years, we think it is time to throw in the towel.

KitGuru Says: I loved following E3 over the years but replacements have garnered popularity and there doesn't seem to be room left to go back to the E3 of old. At this point, I think it might be time to just let E3 end and if the ESA still wants to host a big gaming celebration, it can come back with something more like a PAX or a Gamescom, rather than trying to recapture E3's previous magic.
