Devolver Direct announced for next week

Devolver Digital has taken the E3 period as an opportunity to host weird, nonsensical and ultimately very fun showcases. 2023 is no exception, with the publisher officially announcing its Devolver Direct – and the return of “the world's most beloved video game mascot” Volvy.

Making the announcement via a teaser trailer, Devolver Digital officially confirmed that they are partaking in this year’s Summer Game Fest, saying “The world’s most beloved video game mascot returns with new game reveals, announcements, and surprises – it’s Volvy! Join us on June 8 at 3PM Pacific [11PM UK Time] for The Return of Volvy!”

Over the past many years, Devolver Digital has integrated a multi-year long story into its showcases involving mind control, blood, monsters, laughs, game announcements and a giant robot controlled by Industry veteran Suda51.

It seems as though this year’s event might not continue the lore established over the past many showcases – instead stating a new thread revolving around Volvy. That said, the publisher has somehow managed to surprise viewers time and time again, and so it will be interesting to see what the weird minds at Devolver Digital have come up with.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
