The Sims 4 officially becomes biggest game in the series with 70 million players

The Sims 4 is nearing 10 years on the market, and while a 5th entry has been announced to be in the works, the 2014 title is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. With the game having gone free-to-play back in October of last year, The Sims 4 has now managed to surpass 70 million players – making it by far the biggest title in the franchise.

Making the announcement via a press release, The Sims developer Maxis revealed that “The Sims 4, the latest iteration of the popular life simulation game and the most widely played game in the 23-year history of The Sims franchise, now reaches more than 70 million players around the world.”

The team also revealed that since the base game went free-to-play late last year, The Sims 4 has managed to amass a further 16 million new players – with average weekly users increasing by over 50% (and 75% of new users hailing from outside the US).

Back in October 2022 it was officially announced that a Sims 5 is on its way, and while we have yet to see anything from the game, it is interesting to note the second wind that The Sims 4 is currently experiencing despite confirmation of its sequel.

Speaking on the success of The Sims 4, executive producer Phillip Ring said “It’s incredible to see how much our community has grown over the past eight years, and our players continue to inspire us with the countless ways they explore life in The Sims 4. We know The Sims 4 continues to be a creative outlet for people, and our team strives to deliver new and innovative gameplay content that empowers our players to embrace the chaos that comes with self-discovery.”

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
