Atomic Heart has surpassed 5 million players in just 3 weeks

One of the most notable games to have been released so far this year is Atomic Heart. Developed by Mundfish, the single-player first-person shooter drew much attention thanks to its alternate-history setting and Bioshock inspired aesthetics. Just 3 weeks after its launch, the game has already surpassed 5 million total players.

Making the announcement on Twitter Robert Begratuni, the CEO and founder of Mundfish, said “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to our first game. Our team has worked hard since 2017 to create a project that delivers the ultimate gaming experience, and we are delighted to see that Atomic Heart has resonated with gamers worldwide!” revealing that the game has seen more than 5 million players since its launch on the 21st of February.

Begratuni then spoke on the game’s future, stating: “Now work is underway to improve the overall gaming experience, as well as the active development of DLCs to the game, in the process of which various opinions of the players are taken into account in order to make expansions as exciting as possible and surprise the players.”

Of course, 5 million players does not equate to 5 million copies sold, especially as the game launched day-one on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service (which on its own has over 25 million subscribers). Still, the game’s success is notable, especially with the title having been in development since 2017, meaning that the time and effort put into the game did not go to waste. It will be interesting to see what Mundfish has planned for the DLC.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
