Shigeru Miyamoto announces Pikmin 4, set to release in 2023

During yesterday's Nintendo Direct, the legendary game developer Shigeru Miyamoto personally announced a new entry to the Pikmin series. Nintendo is now working on Pikmin 4, with plans to release in 2023.

Pikmin 4 apparently entered development all the way back in 2015, and while there was a small update in 2017, things have been quiet since then. Last night during Nintendo Direct, Miyamoto broke that silence, revealing the latest trailer for Pikmin 4, and a 2023 release window.

The trailer is only 30-seconds long, giving us a look at some scenery typical of Pikmin games, with a Bulborb that seems to be sleeping with its eyes wide open. However, there was no sight of any actual Pikmin in the trailer.

Pikmin 4 could make some further changes to gameplay. An image shown during the Nintendo Direct suggests the game is built with a third-person camera in mind, rather than using a top-down view. We'll be seeing much more of this game in 2023, presumably in the second half of the year, following the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
