Amazon will publish the next Tomb Raider game

Over the course of 2021, there were several indications that Crystal Dynamics has begun pre-production on the next major Tomb Raider game. In April, the studio has officially confirmed this, announcing that a new Tomb Raider game is in development using Unreal Engine 5. Now, the upcoming title also has a publisher – Amazon.

Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider IP were both acquired by Embracer Group earlier this year, which itself also owns a number of in-house publishing companies and other development studios. Still, the company thought it would be best to seek out a publishing partnership for the next major Tomb Raider game, allowing Amazon to get in on the action.

Today, it was announced that Amazon Games is working with Crystal Dynamics on the next Tomb Raider game. While not much else has been revealed so far, we do know the game will be built on Unreal Engine 5, it will be a narrative-driven, single-player game, and we also know that it will release across multiple platforms, so no need to worry about exclusivity.

The game is still in the early stages of development, so don't expect to see a trailer or release date announcement for quite some time.

KitGuru Says: Amazon has struggled with its on in-house game development efforts, but its time as a publisher has been more successful. The company found great success after publishing ARPG ‘Lost Ark' in the west, but Tomb Raider will be Amazon's first attempt at supporting a major IP known all across the globe.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
