NetherRealm’s next game will be Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12

Mortal Kombat’s creator Ed Boon has long been known to engage with fans online, especially when it comes to them speculating on NetherRealm Studios’ future titles. In a rather transparent move, when asked what the next game by the studio will be, Boon made it quite clear.

Ed Boon, the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises, held an AMA on Twitter, in which one fan asked, “Hint for next game?” to which Boon responded simply with: “I3 or MK12” – meaning either Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12.

NetherRealm Studios has in essence only worked on two franchises since its founding in 2010 – those two being Mortal Kombat and Injustice. As such, while it is unsurprising to see that the studio’s next game will fall into one of these two series, the news may disappoint some who were hoping to see NetherRealm go in a whole new direction.

Of course, Ed Boon is known to be quite a troll and so while he typically doesn’t outright lie to fans, the creator has been known to stretch the truth in the past for the sake of maintaining surprises.

Regardless of whether it is Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12, NetherRealm have had a good relationship with The Game Awards, and so fans are hoping we might get an announcement then. We will have to wait and see.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
