Stalker 2 now targeting 2023 release date

While Stalker 2 was originally planned to release this year, Russia's invasion of Ukraine meant that development had to be paused while employees moved to safety. While GSC Game World still hoped to have the game out this year, it now appears to have slipped into 2023.

Last night during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, Microsoft showed a graphic with over 50 games heading to Xbox and PC this year, 43 of which will be day-one titles for Xbox Game Pass. On the graphic, which you can see below, Stalker 2 is now expected in the first half of 2023.

This news isn't entirely surprising. The development team had pushed the game back from early 2022 to late 2022 in January this year, and then development had to be paused and the company had to move out of Ukraine due to the Russian invasion. Now, GSC Game World is set up in Czechia and development has picked back up again.

While Stalker 2 wasn't specifically mentioned during last night's showcase, hopefully we'll get a new update on the game later in the year.

KitGuru Says: There was a lot of hype around this game last year after its initial unveiling. I expect that feeling will be recaptured when we see the game again, hopefully with a release date confirmation too.
